We caught up with Joe Paley, Head of International and Partnership Development at USW, to hear what this win means to the team and what’s driving their success.
💬 What does being named University of the Year mean to the team at USW?
It is a real honour and pleasure for USW to be named University of the Year. We have been a long-standing partner of Enroly since 2019, using a number of key products including CAS Shield, Insights and Enroly Interviews. So, to be named as an outstanding collaborator by peers feels fantastic!
🌍 What’s been the biggest change or achievement in your international strategy over the past year?
Our biggest achievement has surely been resilience and the ability to adapt. In the last year or so, the sector has had to endure the impact of several issues. From the dependency visa route coming to an end, increased visa, and IHS costs to economic and political uncertainty across many international markets. While we are still guided by our international and university-wide strategy, we have had to adapt in-cycle time and time again to refine our action plans and approach.
🤝 How have you fostered stronger relationships with agents?
Fundamentally it is about trust and partnership. We work with our agents as an extension of our team, and that has been the approach for many years now. Of course, there are several factors key to a strong university-agent relationship, but at its core is a strong understanding of the product, efficient communications, and rigorous compliance.
🔮 What are you most excited about for the future of international education at USW?
USW has continued to invest in its estates and infrastructure, and I am so excited that international students will get to experience several brand-new world-leading facilities that will educate and inspire so many people from across the globe in the years to come.

Stereophonics - Have a Nice Day. As a Welsh university, let’s go with a universally acclaimed Welsh band!
