At Enroly, we believe it’s our people who make the magic happen. Whether it’s supporting universities behind the scenes or helping international students navigate complex processes, it’s the humans behind the tech that bring everything to life.
So, we thought it was time you met some of them.
Welcome to ‘Meet the Enroly team, a new series where we shine a light on the brilliant people powering Enroly’s services. First up: Daniel Perez, who leads our team of interview assessors and plays a vital role in helping students take the next step on their journey to the UK.
Name: Daniel Perez
Q: How long have you worked at Enroly? 14 months now
Q: What’s your role at Enroly?
I work in the Enroly Services team, focusing on services and compliance management. We support universities with a range of processes, visa support, pre-CAS preparation, and interview assessment.
Q: What’s your main focus in the team?
My main focus is leading the team of assessors who review every single student interview Enroly delivers.
It’s my responsibility to maintain the quality and consistency of our assessments, making sure they align with each of our partner university’s specific requirements. Every interview is reviewed by a qualified assessor (person), and we take that responsibility very seriously, ensuring every student is prepared, genuine, and supported.
To give you an idea of scale: this week alone, we’ve conducted nearly 3,000 interviews.
Q: How do you use AI in the interview process?
AI supports us in two major ways:
- Randomised questions: No two students get the same interview. AI generates different question sets for every student, helping us maintain integrity.
- Bias reduction: AI isn’t influenced by things like accents or appearance, and it doesn’t get tired. In traditional one-to-one interviews, we used to see failure rates climb later in the day due to human fatigue. AI helps eliminate that variation and supports fairness across the board.
Q: How do you decide on a pass or fail?
Most interviews are pretty straightforward, students either meet the criteria or they don’t.
The most common reasons for a fail are:
- Lack of preparation or understanding of their course
- Reading from notes or screens during the interview
- Reciting pre-prepared answers rather than responding naturally
In these cases, we’re flexible. If we believe the student would benefit from another shot, we offer a resit and encourage them to respond in a more natural and informed way.
Q: What happens if a student is failed and the university disagrees?
Every university has its own approach to risk, and we follow their guidance in our assessments. That said, our partner universities always have the final say.
If a university disagrees with a decision, they can override it and provide us with feedback. We then align our approach to better reflect their expectations and focus.
Q: How do you collaborate with Enroly partner universities?
It depends on each university’s preferences. For example, if a case is borderline or highlights certain risks, like low scores in English or funding concerns, we flag it for the university to review. Then ultimately the university decides and we execute on their decision.
We always work together to make sure students are supported and standards and compliance rules are fully upheld.
Q: What do you enjoy most about the job?
Doing work that matters. I really believe in what we do, helping ensure that the right students are studying in the UK, and that the process is fair for everyone. We’re supporting both students and universities in a really tangible way.
Q: What’s the best thing about working at Enroly?
The team! It’s a diverse, collaborative group where everyone shares ideas and works together.
There’s a real culture of innovation here, we’re always looking for ways to improve the student experience. It’s exciting to be part of something that’s growing and evolving so quickly.
